I should know. I have two boys and at the time I am writing this, one is 4 years old and the other is 3. One of their favorite things to do when they come home, either form school or a playdate, is to turn on The Fresh Beat band that have recorded on TIVO.

The little one loves to get his dance moves going and sing along with the characters while they perform. The big one loves to copy the dance moves he sees on the tv.

The band doesn't always sing new songs, but repeat some songs in each episode so the kids really get to know the songs well. This makes it easy for them to dance and sing along even when a brand new episode comes on the TV.

The Fresh Beat Band songs are so upbeat that not only do kids love them, but as can be seen by some blogs and forums online, parents seem to find the music very catchy too. That's a great advantage for this TV show over other kids shows as it makes it easier for the parents to watch it with their kids.

They are kind of like a teen rock band version of The Wiggles. Nick Jr may be targeting kids who are older than my 3 and 4 year old sons, with the TV show, but they seem to have underestimated how much the little kids love it.

It was quite funny to watch my kids dance every time the songs came on, but I then discovered I wasn't the only parent who experienced this.

I can remember being really jealous of my uncle who wore the first digital watch I ever saw way back in the 70's, complete with display calender. I now know that it must have been a Casiotron which was the very first Digital watch ever made.

Come the early 80's digital watches were more affordable and attractive and I really wanted one. When I turned 21, it was very disappointing to end up with a traditional  gold bracelet ladies Bulova.

The trend for electronic face digital display watches has come and gone during my lifetime but for some reason I never threw away the one I finally bought myself. A Casio Digital watch with a big square face and multi display of day, date and time, which has been relegated to the back of my old jewellery box for about 20 years.

When my son came over wearing one which was almost exactly the same and proudly showing it off I was amazed. Apparently the Casio Digital Watch is sought after and has street cred.  Of course not wanting to look like I wasn't trend spotter, I got mine out and said I'd been keeping it to leave to him in my will. He took it immediately for his girlfriend - duh!

All jokes aside, they say everything old is new again and older Casio Digital Watches are collectible with most pre 1990 Casio's considered to be vintage watches ( I guess that makes me an antique).  Casio made innovative, cheap and interesting products which pushed the boundaries. The market for these other (sometimes crazy) gadgets - such as the the cigarette lighter calculator is in it's early days so they're still relatively easy to find.

The throw away nature of many Casio products has created a lucrative market, as even though tens of thousands of Casio Digital Watches and other digital products were sold few remain. Which is great news for budding collectors!

Casio was a seed bed of technological innovations, and if you can find some of these older and rarer concept items in working condition then you may have the start of a lucrative collection. The older Casio products were made in Japan, and are highly desirable. Each watch had a model and module number and the place of manufacture can be found by tracing these. Casio collecting is still a relatively new hobby so get to those car boot sales and jump in while you still have the chance. How many times have you wished that you had had the foresight to start collecting something while it was still easily found at jumble sales? Here's your chance. This is a fun beginning softball drill to teach throwing accuracy. The kids form a line facing the coach, each one holding a small foam ball or other type of soft ball.

When the coach says to begin, the kids all try to hit him/her with their balls while the coach tries to avoid getting hit. The kids can run to retrieve their balls after they have thrown them, but they must throw from the starting line. Once the coach has been hit three times, the kids get to make him/her do something silly, like a dance or animal noise.

Look Up

This softball drill for kids teaches beginning players to catch fly balls in the outfield. When first learning softball, many kids are afraid of looking up to catch the ball. This drill will ease them into feeling comfortable catching from below.

This drill requires small foam balls and as many tall people (coaches, assistants, or parents) as possible to stand next to the kids and drop the balls over their heads. The kids look up with their hands raised and try to catch the balls. At first they should use both hands and no glove to get used to catching with both hands. Eventually they can move on to using gloves.
